ok, terminology police.upright bass... stand-up bass, contrabass, double bass, same damn thing. jazz and bluegrass musicians tend to refer to it as an upright. tomato, tomata. tool.

well, if you are talking about the fact that the guitar looks like it's missing a string, thats cos he intentionally takes one off every guitar he owns. Making his 12 string an 11 string for the pure sake of experimentation :)

no its cuz the way he tunes his guitar he has to take it off. it would require the string to be tighter then it could withstand, which would make it break anyway

yeh which is experimentation if he rarely plays in standard tuning. Lot of his songs are in Dobro DGDGBD open G tuning. Thats for the ones that a completely slide orientated. He rarely uses his guitar in that tuning though. He does live but one record uses his grandfathers Dobro
